Our union-trained technicians work on cast iron boilers, combi boilers, and modern high-efficiency units.

Boiler emergency? What to do now

Safety first

If you smell gas: leave the house right away. Don't flip light switches, use the phone inside, or start appliances. Once you're outside, call your gas utility and 911.

If a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, or you suspect a venting problem, get everyone outside into fresh air and call 911.

Call us right away if:

  • You've lost heat completely, and temperatures are near or below freezing
  • The boiler is making loud banging, popping, or rumbling sounds you haven't heard before
  • Water is leaking from the boiler or piping, especially near electrical parts
  • The pressure gauge reads unusually high or keeps dropping
  • The boiler keeps shutting itself off

We offer emergency boiler service every day, including nights, weekends, and holidays. When freezing weather sets in, no-heat calls get priority.

Common boiler problems we repair

No heat or no hot water

The cause is often a failed valve, a thermostat or control problem, a circulator pump that has stopped, or an ignition issue. We trace the root cause so the fix lasts.

Banging, whistling or gurgling

Noises are often caused by kettling, a sign of mineral buildup that overheats water in the heat exchanger, or by air trapped in the system. Left alone, both put extra strain on the boiler.

Leaks or low pressure

Water around the boiler or a pressure gauge that keeps dropping can point to a failing relief valve, worn seals, internal corrosion or a leak in the piping. These are worth fixing early, before water damage or a no-heat breakdown.

Pilot light or ignition failures

Older boilers with a standing pilot can have trouble staying lit. Newer models use electronic ignition. Either way, our technicians diagnose the cause and get the burner firing safely again.

Frequent shutdowns

Boilers have sensors that shut the system down when something isn't right, such as pressure, temperature, or venting. Frequent shutdowns mean the boiler needs attention.

Cold radiators or uneven heat

Air in the lines, a zone valve problem or a weak circulator can leave some rooms warm and others cold.

Why is one room colder than others?

Boiler tune-ups and maintenance

Boilers work almost nonstop through an Ohio Valley winter, so an annual tune-up matters. Regular maintenance helps catch small problems before they become breakdowns. It also keeps the system running efficiently and often helps keep manufacturer warranties valid on newer equipment.

What a Geiler boiler tune-up includes

  • Clean and inspect the burners and heat exchanger
  • Check and calibrate the thermostat and zone controls
  • Inspect the pipes, valves, and fittings for leaks and corrosion
  • Check system pressure against the manufacturer's specifications
  • Test safety controls and check venting
  • Bleed air from the system and radiators as needed

Would you like to keep this on the calendar every year? Our Preferred Customer Maintenance Agreement covers your heating and cooling on a regular schedule, with preferred treatment and no overtime charges.

Boiler replacement and high-efficiency upgrades

Older boilers lose efficiency with age, which raises heating costs and makes winter breakdowns more likely. A properly sized modern boiler can heat your home more evenly and use less fuel.

What a high-efficiency upgrade can offer:

  • ENERGY STAR–rated models that use less fuel than older equipment
  • Zoning and smart controls, including compatibility with smart thermostats and remote control
  • Better comfort and longer life, because correct sizing and installation help prevent short cycling, uneven heating, and premature wear

How a boiler is installed matters as much as which one you choose. We size the system for your home's heat loss, layout, and existing piping, and recommend the right type and fuel for your home.  Ask us about current brands and warranties.

Boiler or furnace: what's the difference?

A boiler heats water and sends hot water or steam to radiators, baseboards or in-floor tubing. A furnace heats air and pushes it through ducts. Many older Cincinnati homes were built around boilers, and they're still a good choice for steady, quiet heat. Not sure if your boiler is gas or electric?

Our homeowner's guide shows you how to tell in a few minutes.

Is my heat gas or electric?

Simple ways to keep your boiler efficient

  • Bleed radiators once a season to release trapped air
  • Use a programmable thermostat to avoid overheating an empty house
  • Insulate exposed pipes in basements and crawl spaces to cut heat loss and prevent freezing
  • Schedule a tune-up every fall, before the first cold snap

Why homeowners choose Geiler for boiler service

  • Faster dispatch: our technicians head out from their homes, not a central shop.
