Backflow
Testing and Repairs: Carbon Monoxide (CO) Testing:
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that pollutes the outdoor
air as well as the indoor air. Some homes and buildings have been found
to have concentrations of this gas that are above the federal health standard
under the Clean Air Act for one hour exposure to outdoor air.
Major Sources: If venting and maintenance are not adequate, gas
appliances (ranges, water heaters, clothes dryers, etc.), fireplaces,
wood and coal stoves, burning charcoal, gasoline engines running in attached
garages or sheds, kerosene heaters, and tobacco smoke can emit dangerous
amounts of Carbon Monoxide.
Health Effects: Carbon monoxide interferes with the distribution
of oxygen to the body. Depending on the amount inhaled, this gas can impede
coordination, worsen cardiovascular conditions, and produce fatigue, headache,
confusion, nausea and dizziness. Very high levels can cause death.
Controls: Have a certified technician inspect your furnace, water
heater and gas clothes dryer at least once a year. Have the proper amount
of combustion air needed for your particular application. Invest in a
carbon monoxide detector and alarm (115 volt type). You should place one
carbon monoxide detector and alarm on each level of living space in your
home.
Choices: Choose the Geiler Company even if you think you might
have a carbon monoxide problem. All of our service technicians are trained
and carry carbon monoxide detectors for you and your family's safety and
